Our Vows

4-18-2023 M. Hoskins & J. Plante

Everything was beautiful and perfect and full of heart; our only regret is that there was not enough time to visit with all you lovely folk. Now, everyone has returned home (or at least have left these parts), takedown has had great progress, and we prepare for our honeymoon.

We hope you forgive our continued self-indulgence, but watch this space for ongoing updates about the event! Including photographic content. In case you didn't hear them at the time (it was a bit of a blur for us!), we've included below the vows we wrote collaboratively.

They're in iambic heptameter quatrains, just to be that much extra.

Out hinter from the Shire one day, upon the country green

Amid the many growing things and bright beneath the sun

Of ancient friends and family loved, a council did convene

And all bore witness to these words which joined the two to one:

Lo, let us stand here hand in hand in sight of friend and kin

Beneath the sky, among the trees, where our two paths are lead

So all can now bear witness to the journey we begin

As we give voice to many oaths left far too long unsaid

As roots into the fertile soil together intertwine

And lofty branches t'ward the sun do ever outstretched grow.

In union shall we skywards thrive, our lives in close align

Our love a stable counterpoise, anchored deep below

Alike we'll shoulder any burden, times of want or care.

And in each other find bulwark to weather any gale.

Our times of joy together savor, life's great feast to share.

Yea, side by side we'll build as one, our home, our life, our tale.

And out the door we'll boldly go to what adventures wait

From open skies to mountains yonder broadly shall we roam

Seeking wonders, brave pursuits, and deeds both small and great

These paths of ours may wander far, but lead us ever home

For hand in hand we greet the day, at night a close embrace,

So to our love a safe retreat we'll find a quiet rest,

In dark times and in light we shall, all things together face,

And to each other cleave forever, this our greatest quest.

Aglow, while sipping sweet fermented nectar of the bee,

They bask in happy love, foretasting now the honeymoon.

Embark will they to journey eastward to the gleaming sea,

So fare thee well beloved friends, the couple returns soon.

My beautiful goblin wife, muttering to herself and collecting garbage on the lawn.
